His journey to the electronic music world is considered a “successful coincidence.”
Upon completion of a bartending course in 2008, a then 18-year-old Mikael handed CVs to various bars around Auckland, New Zealand, which led him to become a VJ at one bar.
Within a few months, Mikael was asked to DJ, introducing him to the world of electronic music and began to put his musical background and production knowledge to work. In just a few short months, his work gained notoriety throughout New Zealand and around the world for his ability to create remixes and bootlegs of popular music and helped brand him as a talented electronic music producer.
Since 2008, Mikael has been commissioned to create official remixes from Dane Rumble to Bombs Away.
With Mikael’s releases making waves all over New Zealand, he got the attention of Get Loaded Records, an independent Auckland-based
electronic music record label founded by Kyle Bourke.
Signing with Bourke and Get Loaded Records at the beginning of 2012, Mikael got to work on his debut electronic album “Loud Noizes,”
which was released November 2012. Having formed a great working relationship with Bourke, Mikael also serves as the Label Manager for
Get Loaded Records (since January 2013).
Now based in Auckland, New Zealand, Mikael has performed at Rhythm and Vines, La De Da, Ohakune Mardi Gras and the Queenstown Winterfest whilst also having toured clubs up and down the country. He has also supported Internationally by DJ Danny Howard (BBC Radio 1) and Avicii.
Mikael is not confined to any genre as he writes and produces electronic music that has crossed many genres but still retain a clear sound.
Mikael Wills started with music as part of his daily routine from early childhood on.
Mikael was raised in Christchurch, New Zealand to musical parents, helping him build the strong musical foundation he has today. Singing and learning violin, piano, and guitar all at the same time, Mikael developed a tuned musical ear, which he used to write, record and produce a pop-punk rock album in his teenage years.
