15 Questions With
Shoe Scene Sypmphony
Shoe Scene Symphony is a project by electronic duo Franz and Andy (Bandoma); hailing from Southern California “SoCal” in the USA. Over the past few years they have enjoyed a string of successes with their tight remixes catching the attention of the likes of electronic dance music heavyweights Avicii and Kaskade. Sandy had a little chat with them before their headlining show at Xphoria.
Shoe Scene Symphony played a fun and energetic set and they spun the crowd a diverse array of tunes; including a blistering mix of Darude’s Sandstorm which I thought was a nice touch of nostalgia and relevant considering Darude’s recent visit down under. They interacted well with the audience as well which is in my opinion one of the hallmarks of a great dj. The future looks big bright and shiny for Shoe Scene Symphony and I feel priveleged to have been able to talk to them.
Check out the little interview with them below.
EDMNZ : What is your favourite memory working together?
SSS : Performing at the Shamrock Festival in San Diego. It was our first major festival with over 10,000 people in the crowd.
EDMNZ : How do you feel about song requests?
SSS : We seldom get requests, but if we do we try to work them in.
EDMNZ : Do you get nervous before you perform?
SSS : Sometimes. A few shots before we hit the stage usually helps haha.
EDMNZ : What did you think of the crowd at Xphoria?
SSS : The crowd was amazing! We could definitely feel the energy and we were excited that people were having a great time.
EDMNZ : When you were little what did you want to be when you grew up?
SSS: Andy – Astronaut or a pilot,
Franz – Didn’t have anything specific but I wanted to be a super hero of some sort.
EDMNZ : Analogue or Digital?
SSS: Digital
EDMNZ: What does the term “EDM” mean for you?
SSS: For us it means a lifestyle that encompasses an appreciation for all styles of dance music and good vibes.
EDMNZ: Do you think age matters in your profession?
SSS : Andy - Not really. Carl Cox, Benny Benassi and Kaskade are getting up there in age, but they seem to do just fine. The older you get though, the less your friends are willing to party.
Franz – In regards of performing not really. But all the drinking and partying YES totally. My hangovers last 2 days! lol
EDMNZ : What are your thoughts on social media?
SSS : Social media is great because it gives you the opportunity to connect with people all over the world.
EDMNZ : Do you think it’s easier or harder in 2015 to make a name for yourself in the music industry; as opposed to say 10 years ago?
SSS: Easier now because of the Internet and technology.
EDMNZ : What is the best part about being dj’s/producers?
SSS : Creating a song, playing it for the first time and watching people dance to your own creation.
EDMNZ : And the worst?
SSS : The late nights and early flights.
EDMNZ: What is your proudest accomplishment so far?
SSS : Hitting over 1.4 million plays on our soundcloud and Avicii playing one of our remixes on his radio show.
EDMNZ : What is one thing about each of you that we wouldn’t find on the internet?
SSS : Not sure. We tend to post a lot about ourselves online.
EDMNZ : What would you do if you couldn’t be dj’s/ producers?
Andy – probably something in the fitness or healthcare fields.
Franz – I worked for a big bank before I decided to take a leap. Probably back in the same business sitting in my cubicle wondering what would have happened if I didn’t give music a shot.
